Frequently Asked Questions

Getting here

The nearest airport to us is Malaga. Regular flights are available from most UK airports.

Transfers from Malaga can be arranged as part of your holiday. Should you be flying into another of the airports then this can be arranged but at an additional charge.

Our opinion doesn’t really matter on this as essentially it’s up to you. Some people prefer the knowledge that the bike is set up correctly for them and are used to handling their own bike. Others are worried about the amount of time it takes to pack and unpack a bike (normally 30-45 minutes each way).

Remember, we’re cyclists and care about you and your bike.  Our equipment is available to rebuild your bike, should you choose to bring it.

If you would rather not have the worry about bringing your own, we can put you in touch with our friends at Cycle Malaga for cycle hire. They will deliver bikes to the house. You still need to bring your own pedals and shoes.

It’s not necessary to hire a car for your holiday here, but if you want to have the freedom to explore the local area, or you are bringing your partner who is not cycling, then you should consider hiring a car.  There are numerous agencies at the airport and prices are very reasonable. We can also let partners know where our lunch stop will be and likely time of arrival should they want to meet us for lunch.

The Accommodation

The minimum stay is 2 nights. We do not have set arrival and departure days, our aim is to meet your holiday requirements so please contact us and we can talk through the different options.

Obviously it depends on how long your stay is! Laundry facilities are available for your use.

For a week’s riding, we recommend that you bring 2-3 pairs of bib tights/jerseys, 2 base layers.

You will need to bring your own helmet as it’s a legal requirement for cyclists in Spain. It’s also advisable to bring a good set of sunglasses and some sun cream to protect your skin from the sun.

Depending on the time of year, you might want to bring arm/leg warmers, wind vest/gilet, rain cape (likelihood of needing it is minimal), hat, gloves, and thermal jacket (Once you get above 1000 metres in the mountains the temperature can drop).

Don’t forget to check the weather forecast before you depart to give you a better idea or ring us and we can tell you what the weather is likely to be for your stay.

We provide shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and hand soap in all bathrooms as well as towels for use in the house. If you intend to visit the beach you might want to bring your own beach towel.

Canillas de Albaida is a typical small Andalusian village. There are a couple of small grocery stores, five restaurants/bars and a handful of other shops. There is also a pharmacy and a cash machine. We find that we can get most things locally. However, if there’s something you can’t really do without, you favourite brand of porridge for example, we recommend that you bring it with you.

Whether you’re on your own or in a group, it’s not necessary to share a room. Please contact us for pricing information.

Yes, but as with most of Spain, whether or not the supplier has issues might impact its availability! However, in emergencies, most of the bars and restaurants in the village have free WiFi access.

Our check-out time is 10:00am on the day of departure but this may be extended if requested and pre-approved by us.

For large groups we can arrange accommodation with other local providers. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

The Holiday

On your day of arrival the focus is on setting up your bikes, or testing those you have hired, with a short afternoon ride led by Craig before dinner at a local restaurant.

For your riding days, a quick pre-ride breakfast is available. We then head out for the day’s riding, with a lunch stop at a pre-determined location mid-ride. Dinner in the evening is at one of the local restaurants.

If you would like a rest day then we can arrange visits to local places of interest.

It’s not necessary to cycle in a group. If you wish you can book the accommodation and hire a bike and do your own thing for the week.

This is your holiday so it’s entirely up to you whether you wish to ride with the group or take a day off.

There’s never any pressure to do anything that you feel you’re not up to.

If you don’t wish to go on the longer group rides, there’s always the option of a solo shorter coffee spin to the beach.

If you’re riding a bike then you’re fit enough. Our aim is to be as inclusive as possible and cater for each client’s needs.

In the Spring, we tend to find that our guests are geared towards getting fitter so if we have a mixed group then we will ensure the slightly less fit are protected on third wheel.

Sometimes we might split the group on climbs with the slightly slower riders setting off first, giving the faster riders a target to aim for on their way up.

In the Autumn then this is about enjoying the fruits of our Summer riding and we can enjoy the ride rather than trying to hone our fitness. The worst case scenario is that you have to jump in the support vehicle!

Absolutely, we design your trip to suit your needs.

We can share our favourite routes or give you advice on direction to travel and places to stop.

Please get in contact with us to discuss a potential booking in greater detail.

We can offer very competitive rates for larger groups of cyclists. Please get in contact with us for further details.

We aim to make cycling in the group a lot more fun than going solo.

Riding in Spain is no different to riding at home so you should treat it as being on a normal long ride, i.e. a saddlebag with 2-3 spare tubes, tyre levers, multi-tool kit, and a good quality compact pump.

We also strongly recommend that you service your bike fully prior to departure. Ensure that all moving parts are in good working order, fresh brake pads, and that your tyres are free of cuts/scrapes.

Should you need anything else while you are with us then we carry a small amount of spares or we can get you to a local bike shop to top up anything you need.

The distance can vary depending on whether it is a flat day or a climbing day but they are typically 50-60 miles but can stretch over 100 for those really up for a challenge!

Depending on our guests requirements then this can be extended or reduced accordingly.

The duration of our group rides can last anywhere from 2 to 8 hours long, depending on the ability of the group.

Depending on the time of year, earlier in the hotter months, rides depart between 8 am – 10 am and generally return between 1 pm – 4pm.

Please contact us on hello@budvelo.co.uk (+44) 07525377475 to discuss your needs.

The boring stuff

Absolutely! It’s a precondition that you must obtain your own personal medical/accident insurance for the complete duration of your holiday with us.

We also recommend that you obtain an EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card) or GHIC (from the UK).

The EHIC/GHIC card will allow you access to the local doctor should you need non-emergency medical attention.

However, please note the EHIC/GHIC card is not the equivalent of medical insurance and will not cover the costs of repatriation or emergency rescue costs.

10% deposit is required upon booking.
